Ramasseur, a remarkable first novel
by Richard deMeulles

At point of death an unnamed man grasps and attempts to make sense of lightning-bright shards of memory—of a house with 5 foster children and a foster mother “as strong as a man,” each of them with a history that together form a series of tales shading off into myth in the shadow of Shabaqua mountain, where the witch created time...

Ramasseur is a brilliant novel...”—Veronica Ross

Ramasseur is part of the Literary Press Group’s Fiery First Fiction national promotion. Check out the blog here!

Arcadia Borealis: Childhood and Youth in Northern Ontario
by George Case

The literary memoir a region and a generation have long awaited!

Imagine Morley Torgov’s A Good Place to Come From for Gen-Xers; or Stephen King’s “Stand By Me” set in the lands around Lake Superior; a Look Homeward, Angel for the country of the Group of Seven.

George Case is funny, nostalgic, and unsparing...”—F. G. Paci

Fall 2007 Recent Releases

Angels, Stars, and Trees: Tales of Christmas Magic, by John Forrest.

In the tradition of O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi,” the seven stories in this collection capture that special time of the year when people become larger than themselves, when the atmosphere crackles with anticipation, when miracles do happen. Set in 1950s through 1970s Canada, the stories all in one way or another evoke nostalgic reminiscences of home and family.

Charlie Smith Reads: The Best of the Birch Lake Road.

In response to repeated reader-requests, Charlie Smith—“the Bard of the North Shore”—reads 20 of his crowd-pleasing best poems from his first two books, plus five new beauties. A cross between Robert Service’s tall tales, Grey Owl’s attention to nature, Ian Tyson’s cowboy poetry, and Fred Eaglesmith’s acerbic wit, Charlie’s poetry is as authentic as the land he farms northeast of Massey Ontario.

Remembering Medusa Remembering, poems by Monique Chénier.

From behind the familiar depiction of Medusa—the snake-haired Gorgon whose gaze can turn you to stone—another story is emerging, of an ancient injustice, of the head dominating the body, of modern knowledge overcoming ageless wisdom. On facing pages, in alternating classical Sapphic fragments and contemporary prose poetry, Medusa “re-members” herself and ushers us into a story long forgotten.
